"Helping Others Return To Independent Living"
"Annually, we treat over 600 people as inpatients in our facility and
approximately 30 per day as outpatients. Our
goal is to return them to independent living after incurring a disability due to
illness or injury. Our record of
returning people to their home and continuing an independent life exceeds the
success rate nationally." Diane D.
Giannunzio, President & CEO.
As
you may know, a new era has begun at
Southwest Regional Rehabilitation Center. On May 21, 2005, after four years
of planning and anticipation, we opened the doors to our new state-of-the-art 26
bed two-story facility. As always,
we continue to provide for the full range of rehabilitation services to both
inpatients and outpatients including transportation to and from our facility
when needed. In addition to
beautiful patient rooms accented with rich cherry woodwork and floors, many of
which overlook a natural pond and wetland with attendant wildlife, our new home
has a therapy pool, Café, Bistro and an Activities for
Daily
Living
Center
as well as two spacious therapy gyms, one with a panoramic view of our
wetlands. As an extension of our
rehabilitation program, we now have a full-size
Fitness
Center
and nationally certified Massage Therapist, both open to the public as well as
former patients for membership and/or participation.
Both
our inpatient & outpatient populations continue to grow as we strive to meet
the needs of residents throughout southwest
Michigan. Of course, due to national
economic conditions related to various crises, cutbacks in funding for Medicare
& Medicaid challenge our desire to provide the best quality and quantity of
healthcare services to our patients. In
the near future, with the help of those who believe in and support our efforts,
we hope to:
-
Purchase and operate additional vans to transport those patients who
have limited access to transportation to and from the Center.
-
Continue to provide care without charge to those who
cannot afford it.
-
Develop a Fall Prevention and other educational
programs for our aging population.
-
Expand our programming to meet the needs of patients
with traumatic brain injuries, multiple trauma and burns.
-
Provide a level of care which becomes more
comprehensive as our aging patients' physical care needs become more
challenging.
-
Cope with Federal cutbacks in Medicare & Medicaid
so that access to the best healthcare remains feasible.
-
Extend the continuum of care to include encouragement
and incentives for
Fitness
Center
involvement.
We
are most thankful for the opportunity to help our patients return home to
independent living. Your support of
our efforts to serve those with healthcare needs in
Southwest Michigan
is sincerely appreciated.
